Which tube station is closest to Hampstead Village?
Hampstead station on the Northern line (Edgware branch) is the closest, right in the heart of the village. It is one of the deepest stations in London at 58.5 metres — lifts are available. Belsize Park station is a short walk away and can be less crowded.
How do I get to Hampstead Heath by public transport?
Take the Northern line to Hampstead or Golders Green station, or the Overground to Gospel Oak or Hampstead Heath station. Multiple bus routes serve the area including the 24, 46, 168, C11 and N5.
Is there parking near Hampstead Village?
Parking in Hampstead is very limited. There are a small number of pay-and-display bays on Heath Street and Jack Straw's Castle area. The easiest option is public transport — avoid driving on weekends when streets are especially busy.
How far is Hampstead from central London?
Hampstead is approximately 5 miles (8 km) north of central London. The tube journey from King's Cross to Hampstead takes around 15 minutes; from central London around 20–30 minutes depending on your starting point.

Is Hampstead Heath free to visit?
Yes, Hampstead Heath is entirely free to enter. The 790-acre parkland is open to the public every day of the year. The open-air Parliament Hill Lido and the swimming ponds charge a small entry fee.
Are the Hampstead swimming ponds open all year?
The mixed, men's and ladies' ponds are open year-round, including winter wild swimming. However, hours vary by season and weather conditions. Check the City of London Corporation website for current opening times before visiting. Entry is around £4 for adults.
Can I bring my dog to Hampstead Heath?
Yes — dogs are very welcome on Hampstead Heath and it is one of the best places in London to walk them. Dogs must be kept on leads near the ponds and in certain wildlife conservation areas. There are several dog water stations and waste bins across the Heath.
What is there to see on Hampstead Heath?
Parliament Hill viewpoint (one of London's finest panoramas), Kenwood House (free National Trust property with a stunning art collection), the swimming ponds, the Athletics Track, model boating pond, adventure playgrounds, and miles of woodland and meadow walking trails.
Is Hampstead Heath safe?
Hampstead Heath is generally very safe during the day and is busy with families, joggers and dog walkers. As with any large park, take standard precautions after dark. The Heath is patrolled by City of London Police and Heath keepers.

What are the best cafés in Hampstead?
Hampstead has an excellent café scene. Popular favourites include Louis Patisserie (an NW3 institution since 1963), Ginger & White on Perrin's Court, The Coffee Cup on Hampstead High Street, and Brew on South End Road. The village also has several independent speciality coffee shops.
Are there good pubs in Hampstead?
Yes — Hampstead is renowned for its historic pubs. The Holly Bush (a Grade II listed 18th-century pub), The Flask on Flask Walk, The Spaniards Inn (where Bram Stoker and Dickens drank), and The Duke of Hamilton are all highly regarded. Most serve excellent food.

What is there to do in Hampstead with children?
Hampstead Heath has three adventure playgrounds (Parliament Hill, Golders Hill Park, and the Heath Extension), a paddling pool, model boating pond, and petting zoo at Golders Hill Park. Kenwood House has lovely grounds and regular family events. The village itself has independent toy and book shops.
Is Kenwood House free?
Yes — Kenwood House is free to visit and is managed by English Heritage. The house contains important paintings by Rembrandt, Vermeer and Turner. The grounds are also free and beautiful year-round. Some special exhibitions may charge admission.
What is Flask Walk?
Flask Walk is one of Hampstead's most charming pedestrian lanes, running from Hampstead High Street down to Well Walk. It is lined with independent shops, a antique market, the historic Flask pub, and Georgian cottages. The name comes from the flasks of spa water once sold here in the 18th century.
Can I swim in Hampstead Ponds in winter?
Yes — the Hampstead Ponds are open for wild swimming all year, including winter. Cold water swimming has grown hugely in popularity. The ponds are maintained by the City of London Corporation and lifeguards are on duty. Water temperatures can drop to around 4–5°C in January.
