Wanstead

The Wanstead Underground station is a distinctive Art Deco building designed by Charles Holden in the 1930s, with a stark exterior reminiscent of Brutalism. It is served by the Central line and is described as nice, clean, and tidy. Inside the station, there is a small sweet shop. ⬆️ The station has escalators from the ticket hall to the platforms but no lifts. ➡️ Wanstead is located in Redbridge, east of London, on the Hainault loop of the Central line. Leytonstone is the next station towards west, while Redbridge is towards east. During World War II, the underground tunnels between Wanstead and Gants Hill were repurposed as an aircraft component manufacturing installation by Plessey. This delayed construction of Wanstead station until it finally opened on December 14th, 1947. ℹ️ Overall
